Winter Activities in Glenwood Springs: From Outdoor Powder Plays To Indoor Entertainment

  • December 9, 2019

Snow season has officially arrived in Glenwood Springs, and with it the start of all your favorite cold and cozy winter-themed pastimes.

From skiing at Sunlight Mountain Resort and skating at the community center to a day at the spa and a night at the comedy show, Glenwood Springs is welcoming Old Man Winter with a flurry of activities that, depending on preference, are perfect for invigorating outdoor recreation or creature comforts indoors.

Get Moving

Sunlight Mountain Resort is the place to go for maximum winter fun in Glenwood Springs! The resort is open on weekends now and daily beginning Dec. 13. Purchase lift tickets online or at the mountain, and be sure to check out special, value-packed deals like Slope & Soak 4-Packs and Ski Swim Stay packages. In addition to skiing and snowboarding at Colorado’s most family-friendly ski resort, visitors also have other options for enjoying a day out on the mountain.

Expert-led snowmobiling tours take off from Sunlight and guide visitors through the Colorado high country along miles of groomed trails. There are also plenty of opportunities to play in powder stashes all along the route.

Nordic skiing, snowshoeing and fat biking are all possibilities at Babbish Gulch, Sunlight’s extensive network of snow-packed groomed trails. Whichever your mode of transportation, you’ll feel exhilarated as you glide, hike and bike through snowy aspen glades on these free-to-use trails.

Even more mountain thrills can be found at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park where the Alpine Coaster and Haunted Mine Drop are open year-round. A Winter Funday Pass is the best value and includes the Glenwood Gondola, two cave tours and unlimited turns on thrill rides, 4-D movies and laser tag.

Ice skating is a classic cold weather activity for all ages at the Glenwood Springs Community Center. Check out the ice rink schedule for drop-in hockey and public skating times.

A spa treatment is another option to chase away the winter chills. Home to deeply rooted wellness traditions, Glenwood Springs boasts several day spas, some offering treatments that increase body temperature. Warm up with feel-good body polishes, heated mud wraps and hot stone massages.

Indoor Antics

Some of the best wintertime activities, heat you up from the inside. For lots of laughs, catch the new Holiday Show at the Glenwood Vaudeville Revue which runs through Jan. 4. The cast of talented, professional actors keeps audiences in stitches with skits, jokes, high energy dance numbers, and performs at least one serious song that spotlights the cast’s extraordinary vocal talents.
