Inspired by the song featured in The Sound of Music, we’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite things to do in Glenwood Springs during the winter months of December and January.
Whether you’re new to Glenwood Springs or a regular visitor to the hot springs and adventure haven, these activities are some of our favorites. We hope they’ll be a few of yours as well, and the beginning of a vacation filled with warmth, wonder, and unforgettable memories.
1. Walk Through the Historic Hotel Colorado
The Hotel Colorado’s twinkling lights and seasonal decorations bring holiday cheer to every corner of this historic establishment. We like to find a cozy spot in the lobby to curl up with a warm drink from the bar or the coffee shop—it’s the perfect way to bask in the hotel’s timeless elegance.
2. Soak in the Hot Springs as Snow Falls
It’s like being inside a snow globe and a truly magical experience! There’s nothing quite like soaking in the warm, therapeutic waters of Glenwood’s hot springs while snowflakes gently fall around you.
3. Mangia Italiano at Brava Modern Trattoria
When winter calls for gourmet comfort food, head to Brava for delicious Italian entrees and mouthwatering desserts. From the Primo Corso to the pasta dishes and desserts, every bite is a culinary delight.
4. Shop at Local Boutiques
For retail therapy, we like to meander through Glenwood’s “mom and pop shops”, the town’s boutiques and stores are filled with all kinds of unexpected treasures you won’t find elsewhere.
5. Take a Snowmobile Tour at Sunlight Mountain Resort
When the need for speed strikes, we like to let the throttle out on a snowmobiling tour through the White River National Forest. It’s an outing that is a perfect blend of high-octane adventure and soul-soothing time in nature.
6. Ride the Alpine Coaster and Explore Kings Row Cavern
At Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park, winter is a thrill-a-minute. We can’t get enough of the Alpine Coaster, especially after dark when the thousands of twinkling lights illuminate the track. And the formations on the Kings Row cave tour always satisfy our sense of awe and wonder.
7. Indulge at Sundae Ice Cream and Hot Chocolate
For a sweet treat that hits the spot, we like to stop by Sundae. Their homemade ice cream sandwiches paired with steaming hot chocolate—or anything drenched in hot fudge—brings out the kid in us.
8. Warm Up with Tacos at Slope and Hatch
Tacos from Slope and Hatch aren’t just a meal; they’re an experience. With creative flavors and spicy options, these tacos are like a warm hug for your taste buds.
9. Laugh at the Glenwood Vaudeville Revue
A Glenwood Springs staple for a hilarious night of belly laughs with family and friends. The Glenwood Vaudeville Revue’s all-new winter show is a hoot and sure to be a cure for any lingering winter blues!
10. Sip Coffee at Wild in the Maxwell Anderson Lobby
Start the weekend with a fresh cup of coffee and a baked treat from Wild Coffee. Comfy chairs and the upscale ambiance in the lobby of Maxwell Anderson add extra panache to the experience.
11. Uphilling at Sunlight Mountain Resort
One of our favorite workouts is uphilling at Sunlight, especially on a Colorado blue sky day. The effort is well worth it when we reach the summit and meet panoramic views as far as the eye can see.
