7 Best Instagram-able Winter Photos to Take in Glenwood Springs

Find out where to go for the best photos in Glenwood Springs this winter. These seven photo-worthy spots will have Instagram users double-tapping each Gram-able post.

Every destination tells a story. For visitors to Glenwood Springs in winter, that story is about steamy geothermal hot springs, historic old hotels bedazzled for the holidays, revitalized community gathering spaces and over-the-top, spectacular wonders, both man-made and natural.

Instagrammers use images to tell their story and cultivate a loyal following. Grow that feed big enough and you might find yourself labeled an “influencer”! Many, however, post to the app just to share pretty photos with friends and family and visually spread the word about a great experience.

Whether you’re an Instagram pro or a casual user, your feed will benefit from your winter vacation to Glenwood Springs when you post images from these seven places.

  1. Artsy Shot: Tubing on the Colorado River Sculpture

The newly placed sculpture on the North Landing of the Pedestrian Bridge weighs over 10,000 pounds and features pristine all-white Yule Marble from Colorado Stone Quarries in nearby Marble. Take a close-up that focuses on the details, texture and patterns of the artwork.

  1. Action Shot: Sunlight Mountain Resort

In winter, Glenwood Springs is all about outdoor recreation. The local ski resort offers ample opportunities to capture subjects in motion. Ask someone to take a photo of you performing tricks in the Terrain Park or carving turns down Sun King or posing on the mountain. An image of your ski tips skimming over the treetops as you ride the Primo Lift to the summit is also a classic, as well as the unbeatable views of Mount Sopris on top of the mountain.

  1. Pleasing Perspective: Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park

You don’t need a drone to take great aerial shots, just ride the Glenwood Gondola to America’s only mountain-top theme park. From the Viewing Deck at 7,100 feet above sea level, you’ll see snow-sprinkled Glenwood Springs in miniature below. Other great snaps to get while here include the spectacular cave formations of King’s Row, sitting on the Gram-worthy wood chair, or a shot of you on theme park rides open all winter long—like the Alpine Coaster and Haunted Mine Drop.

  1. Urban Vibes: Bethel Plaza

Once dimly lit and the province of pigeons, the space under the Grand Avenue Bridge has been transformed into a bright, lively place where the community comes together for everyday meetups and special events like this year’s New Year’s Eve celebration. Flanked by Glenwood Springs restaurants, this place is always buzzing with some type of activity. Take fun and candid shots here, perfect for an impromptu photoshoot.

  1. Old Time Architecture: The Hotel Colorado

Elegant, friendly and iconic, the historic hotel is always a visual delight, especially during the holiday season. You’ll easily be able to take well-composed photos with leading lines, vibrant colors and interesting details. Catch a selfie with a loved one to share the holiday cheer.

  1. Hot Shot: Glenwood Hot Springs and Iron Mountain Hot Springs

As Colorado’s premier hot springs destination, photos of the geothermal attractions are a must. In winter, the temperature inversion creates a micro atmosphere of vapor and clouds that is captivating and mysterious. There’s wide appeal in a picture of you admiring the scenery around you as the mist rises.

  1. Landscape Extraordinaire: Hanging Lake

During the winter months you can park at the trailhead in Glenwood Canyon, but a permit to hike Hanging Lake is still required. Hiking boots with traction and hiking poles will help you traverse the steep and slippery trail to the famed lake. It’s worth the effort though. Because fewer people hike Hanging Lake in the winter, your photos of the triple waterfalls and idyllic lake in a fresh blanket of snow will stand out.
