5 Child-Friendly Activities in Glenwood Springs

Kids just want to have fun! This summer take them to Glenwood Springs. It’s Colorado’s family-friendly resort town in the mountains, where you’ll have a blast with these five kid-endorsed activities.

Splashing.

Nothing says summer like water and Glenwood Springs has plenty of that! The town has two hot springs swimming attractions, featuring pools where splashing is allowed and even encouraged! The Glenwood Hot Springs big pool is about the length of a football field and becomes an aquatic playground for fun and games all summer long. Iron Mountain Hot Springs’ family pool is filled with freshwater and kept at a balmy temperature for extended playtime. Another way to make a big splash is with a family rafting trip down either the Colorado or Roaring Fork rivers. Local outfitters and expert guides can ensure a fun-drenched trip for one and all.

Adventuring.

Leave your indoor voice at home. Up the volume with a healthy scream on thrill rides at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park. Kid favorites include the Alpine Coaster, the Haunted Mine Drop, the Cliffhanger Roller Coaster and the Giant Canyon Swing. Another way to relieve pent up energy left over from school days is to shake it out on the trail. Hike to Hanging Lake, a favorite with kids and adults. The trail features lush woodlands, wooden bridges and of course waterfalls as well as a pristine lake with fish to view but not to touch.

Learning.

Education doesn’t stop just because school’s out; it can, however, be more fun outside rather than in a classroom. If they don’t already know about quick-draw gunslinger Doc Holliday, introduce them to the western legend at the Doc Holliday Museum and take a short hike to his grave marker in Linwood Cemetery, where people like to leave cards and coins in memorial.

Laughing.

Giggle-fits are inevitable for kids of all ages at the Glenwood Vaudeville Revue. The two-hour show is family-friendly and chock-full of entertaining skits, jokes, novelties and high-energy dance numbers.  If your child is a class clown, be sure to snag a seat in the front of the theatre. The cast has a knack for interacting with audience extroverts. For families whose idea of fun involves riddles, puzzles and problem solving, give Glenwood Escape Room a try. Kids and parents will have to be on their game; the challenge is real. Only 45 percent of people succeed! A silly photo at the end will put a smile on everyone’s face no matter the outcome.

Snacking.

The foods of summer are the most memorable. Moderation has its place, but not necessarily on summer vacation. June, July and August are for ice cream cones, icy blue Slurpee’s, creamy shakes, chocolate candy, homemade donuts and sweet treats. You’ll find all these sugary, kid-pleasing delights at Glenwood Springs eateries and specialty shops. Parents, don’t panic, there are also plenty of healthy dining choices to balance the scales.
