Mt. Sopris views in Spring above Glenwood Springs

It’s Spring in Glenwood Springs!

  • March 6, 2019

Right now, spring is unfurling in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. A beautiful season of renewal, spring is an ideal time to recharge and revisit your favorite hot springs town in the mountains.

Awaken to a Fresh New Season of Fun in Glenwood Springs

At about the same elevation as Denver, spring comes early to Glenwood Springs, Colorado. Warmer temperatures create season-opening opportunities for outdoor adventurers. While other mountain towns are still buried under piles of dirty snow, Glenwood’s snowpack is receding with each passing day enabling visitors to partake in activities earlier than in other places.

Get a Head Start on Spring

If you’ve been itching to get outside to play without bundling up in ten layers of clothing, Glenwood Springs is your springtime destination in the Colorado mountains. Here, you can get out on the trails and even on the river before it’s possible elsewhere. Spring is also a primetime for hot springs because temperatures are suited for the dual pleasures of sunning and soaking.

Fun Springtime Activities to Try in Glenwood Springs:

Hiking.

For a cardio workout with a view take a hike up Red Mountain. Another option is to trek to Hanging Lake prior to Memorial Day when there are fewer people on the trail.

Biking.

Cycle the Rio Grande Trail to Carbondale and back for an early season training ride (the remainder of the trail to Aspen opens May 1) or pedal along the Glenwood Canyon Recreation Path which also opens in late spring.

Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park.

Ride the brand-new Glenwood Gondola to America’s only mountaintop theme park for thrill rides and cave tours.

Rafting.

The season opens in early April. Take an exhilarating guided whitewater rafting trip on the Colorado River through scenic Glenwood Canyon.

Tandem paragliding.

Take flight like a bird off the summit of Red Mountain for an unparalleled paragliding experience of the Roaring Fork Valley.

Skiing.

Classic Colorado spring skiing is still in fine form at Sunlight Mountain Resort.

Hot springs.

No matter what springtime activities you prefer, a soak or steam afterwards at Glenwood’s hot springs attractions is required.

Glenwood Springs is Exempt from “Mud Season”

Other resort towns are practically shuttered in April and May due to what’s known as “mud-season,” the ugly four to six weeks in the spring after the ski resorts close. Until the weather warms there’s just not much to do there. In Glenwood Springs, because spring here is an early bird, the dreaded “mud season” is non-existent.

Glenwood Springs Lodging & Dining—You’re Welcome

Unlike other mountain communities, Glenwood’s restaurant scene is as vibrant and convivial as at any other time of year. Springtime visitors can count on a fun dining atmosphere—eateries bustling with live music, taps flowing with craft beer, happy hour specials and best of all, friendly waitstaff serving up platefuls of stomach-satisfying delicious food.

Like the restaurants, Glenwood Springs lodges roll out the welcome mat in spring with their always outstanding hospitality. Look for a lodge that caters to what’s important to you whether that’s an indoor pool, complimentary breakfast, a historic setting, pet-friendly accommodations or admission to top attractions that are included in the room rate.
