Go At it Alone: Plan a Solo Trip to Glenwood Springs

  • May 29, 2018

Pack a bag and head to Glenwood Springs with your two closest companions: You and your shadow! Solo travel is a trend that’s on the rise, especially among women. We’ll show you how to elevate your alone time in Colorado’s favorite hot springs town.

There are so many great reasons to travel solo. People of all ages—from millennials to boomers—are choosing to take a vacation all by themselves. According to one study, women are the bulk of solo travelers. A full 72 percent are female; they’re ladies who value adventure and meeting new people on their journeys.

Other perks of exploring the world on your own include the ease of planning activities and itineraries without having to consult others and the ability to devote time to an interest or hobby without feeling guilty. But it’s the intangibles that people often cite as the biggest advantages to going solo. Things like improving decision-making skills, gaining self-confidence and getting outside of your comfort zone.

Glenwood Springs is ideal for solo travelers of both sexes. With three hot springs, two rivers and a mountaintop theme park, it’s Colorado’s relaxation and adventure capital. Single gadabouts can soak, swim and steam at Glenwood’s geothermal sites. The choices for active adventures are almost unlimited and include a variety of guided tours. When it’s time to refuel, there are plenty of possibilities for delicious dining. Lodging options are just as varied. Experience a historic hotel, the hospitality of a B&B, the charm of a family-owned lodge or the convenience of a flagship property.

Our best advice for solo journers to Glenwood Springs:

Arrive by train.

If train travel interests you, Amtrak has daily service to Glenwood Springs and many hotels and attractions either provide shuttle services or are within walking distance of the station.

Immerse yourself.

Glenwood Springs is a hot springs hot spot, and no trip here would be complete without a geothermal experience. Try the historic Glenwood Hot Springs Resort, the riverside Iron Mountain Hot Springs or the underground steam grottos at the Yampah Vapor Caves.

Add in adventure.

Glenwood Canyon is not only a scenic gem, it’s also ground zero for all sorts of outdoor activities. Raft churning whitewater, cycle along a paved trail that hugs the Colorado River, thrill on new mountain bike trails at Wulfsohn Mountain Park, or hike to the natural wonder that is Hanging Lake.

And more thrills.

To up the heart-pounding factor, you could go paragliding  or spelunking at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park!

Get social.

Making new friends is one of the biggest reasons for solo travel. Whether you’re soaking in the hot springs or dining at one of Glenwood’s restaurants, engage with the people around you. Glenwood Springs is a friendly town and you’ll find that chatting up fellow travelers, shop owners and locals is easy and rewarding.

Take a break.
