Iron Mountain World Springs

Broaden Your Soaking Horizons in Glenwood Springs

  • July 20, 2023

Geothermal has gone global in Glenwood Springs. Earlier this month, Iron Mountain Hot Springs opened the long-awaited expansion, and Glenwood Hot Springs Resort has plans to unveil new pools in 2024.

With the opening of WorldSprings at Iron Mountain Hot Springs, there are more ways to soak in Glenwood Springs than ever before. What’s it like? It’s a trip—around the world!

Step Into a New Soaking Experience

collage of pictures of Iron Mountain Hot Springs UpriverThe main attractions at WorldSprings at Iron Mountain Hot Springs are the 10 new world experience pools, each one representing a country renowned for its rich thermal spring heritage. The experience pools feature water “recipes” that recreate the mineral content of fabled springs across the globe. A new tagline sums up what it’s like, “Bring your swimsuit, leave your passport.” A single visit to UpRiver, gives you access to:

  • Blue Lagoon, Iceland
  • Vichy, France
  • Hokkaido, Japan
  • Kirsehir, Turkey
  • Baile Tusnad, Romania
  • Banjar, Bali
  • Yarrangobilly, Australia
  • Soda Springs, New Zealand
  • Chiancianco, Italy
  • Yangyang, South Korea

The pools are closer to the river and the views are lovely, especially at sunset!

Confluence Pools & Cold Plunge Offer Breaks from the Heat

Collage of photos from Iron Mountain Hot Springs UpriverIn addition to exotic soaking experiences, this area features two freshwater confluence pools with upper and lower levels. On the cool side at around 84˚F, the confluence pools also have waterfalls and are perfect for interspersing with hot spring soaking.

There is also a cold plunge pool that ticks in a just 55˚F. While not quite a polar bear icy, taking a dip in the chilly water has a plethora of benefits including reducing inflammation, boosting mood, improving circulation and immune response, alleviating arthritis and aiding in fat burning and weight loss. All you have to do is have the courage to take the plunge!

An Adults-Only Soaking Experience

The WorldSprings area is designed for those 21 and over. While children are welcome at Iron Mountain Hot Springs, World Springs is a no-splash zone where visitors can enjoy in-pool adult beverages and mature conversation. World Springs guests are welcome to move back and forth across the entire property and have access to all 32 pools. They can also just relax and enjoy the amenities including the Sandbar Café. The menu features delicious items like shrimp tostadas, quinoa-based salads, muffuletta sandwiches, baked goods and smoothies. The drink selection covers all the thirst-quenching bases and includes beer, wine, frozen and traditional cocktails, mocktails and nonalcoholic options.

More New Soaking Experiences on the Way

Glenwood Hot Springs Pool expansion renderingIf you visit Glenwood Springs, you’ll also notice a lot going on at the east end of Glenwood Hot Springs Pool. The historic hot springs is in the process of adding five new soaking options. When it opens next year, the new swimming area will add hot plunge, cold plunge and infinity-edge pools as well as two pools with waterfalls, including one that will be grotto-like in nature. As with the existing large pool and recently renovated Therapy Pool, all water for the new pools will come from Yampah Spring which features 15 naturally occurring minerals.

While the new area is being built, visitors have unimpeded access to the rest of the hot springs resort, including the two historic pools—the Therapy Pool and the enormous main hot spring pool—and the Sopris Splash Zone at the west end of the property.

The Sopris Splash Zone is a freshwater play area for adults and children. It features Shoshone Chutes, a fast-moving river ride; Hanging Lake, a children’s play area with mini water slides and waterfalls; and Grand Fountain, which acts as a kid-friendly splash pad by day and a colorful, eye-catching fountain after hours.

Hot springs soaking in Glenwood Springs has a storied past with exciting new experiences. Be transported to a new realm of bliss. Learn more and make plans to visit today!
