For 50 years, Sunlight Mountain Resort has been making people smile!
For skiers and snowboarders with more enthusiasm than money, Sunlight Mountain Resort has been a ray of sunshine in the Colorado ski industry since it first opened in 1966. The ski area, located on the outskirts of the hot springs town of Glenwood Springs, Colorado is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Though each passing decade has brought growth and changes, what has stayed the same is the resort’s dedication to keeping skiing accessible, affordable and fun for all.
The Mountain Experience
Even in those early days when there were few paid employees, mostly volunteers, and a single lift served just a few trails, founding locals hoped Sunlight Ski Area would be a bright new spot for Colorado skiing. Now with 67 trails covering 680 acres of terrain and a vertical drop of 2,000 feet, the resort is still beloved by locals and a popular destination for skiing families who appreciate the wide variety of runs, the resort’s friendly vibe and its common-sense ticket prices.
Colorado’s Most Affordable Ski Trip
Known for its reasonable rates, a $63 adult lift ticket at Sunlight is half the cost of its glitzy neighbors in Aspen and Vail. With the ever-popular Ski Swim Stay package, kids under 12 ski free with every paid adult. Rates start at $99, including lodging, lift tickets and Glenwood Hot Springs Pool passes.
Celebrating 50 Years
To commemorate the half-century milestone, Sunlight Ski Area has created a series of short documentaries that feature local residents with personal ties to the resort. To watch the series, visit the video link at www.sunlightmtn.com. Sunlight also commissioned Meier Skis, a Colorado ski and snowboard manufacturer, to build limited edition custom 50th anniversary gear. During its annual Ski Spree festivities on Feb 4 and 5, Sunlight will be giving away a commemorative snowboard valued at $499.
