Hotel Colorado’s 35th Annual Lighting Ceremony
The official start to the holiday season in Glenwood Springs begins when the historic Hotel Colorado flips the switch to illuminate more than half a million lights. This year marks the 35th Annual Lighting Ceremony, happening Friday, Nov. 28, and it’s one of the town’s most beloved traditions.
While the festivities culminate in the lighting display after dark, guests can also look forward to a full schedule of daytime activities at the Hotel, including a craft fair, photo booth, live symphony music, and an incredible ice-carving performance in the outdoor courtyard. Santa will also be on-site for photos. For added whimsy, stop into the Roosevelt Room to see creative variations of gingerbread houses and vote for your favorite.
As the day winds down, the excitement builds for the big moment, and the town turns out in droves to watch as Santa leads the countdown from the rooftop and the hotel bursts into light at 7:05 p.m., followed by a dazzling fireworks show. The combination of twinkling lights, live music on the outdoor stage along 6th Street, and the tangible atmosphere of joy make this event a Glenwood Springs holiday highlight.
But don’t fret if you can’t make it to the annual ceremony on the Friday after Thanksgiving. The Hotel Colorado’s festive indoor displays and outdoor holiday lights twinkle brightly throughout the entire season and well into the new year.
