Winter on the Mountain, family making smores

Holiday Happenings in Glenwood Springs—A Trio of Good Tidings

The holidays are just around the corner, and Glenwood Springs is ready to shine with three merry events that deliver seasonal cheer to one and all.

From Winter on the Mountain at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park and the 34th Annual Holiday Lighting Ceremony at Hotel Colorado to Glenwood’s Grand Holiday, you’re invited to join us in Glenwood Springs for a brilliant season brimming with wonder and joy.

Winter on the Mountain at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park

Starting Saturday, November 23, Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park transforms into a dazzling wonderland for Winter on the Mountain. Half a million twinkling lights adorn trees, pathways, and rides, creating a festive glow that comes into focus on the gondola ride approach to the park entrance. For the perfect start to the holiday season, join the Winter on the Mountain Kick-off Party, which features live music on opening weekend and select days throughout the season.

Each Saturday in December, Santa and the Grinch make special appearances. Little ones can meet Santa in his mountaintop workshop, share their Christmas wishes, and pose for photos. And for those with a mischievous side, the Grinch will be around, bringing his grumpy but lovable charm to all. Don’t miss the magnificent musical Christmas Tree in the Main Plaza which captivates onlookers with a brilliant light show accompanied by holiday tunes every 30 minutes starting at 5 p.m.

Hotel Colorado Holiday Lighting

Hotel Colorado’s Annual Lighting Ceremony

On Friday, November 29, head over to the historic Hotel Colorado for the 34th Annual Holiday Lighting Ceremony, a beloved Glenwood Springs tradition. This year’s celebration includes extended entertainment, an all-new artisan craft fair, and photo ops galore! Shop for handmade gifts in the Devereux Ballroom, snap photos in a holiday-themed photobooth, and let the kids spend time with Santa.

The hotel’s courtyard becomes an al fresco artist’s studio as an ice sculptor transforms a block of ice into a work of art. Music lovers will enjoy live performances including the retro harmonies of The Denver Dolls, singing nostalgic carols in the lobby.

The celebration moves outdoors to the Main Stage on Sixth Street by 5 p.m. After a warm welcome from hotel staff and owners, talented local acts will take the stage. They’ll be followed by the Denver Dolls to warm up the crowd before A Band Called Alexis takes the stage with a setlist of holiday hits and crowd-favorites.

At 7 p.m., the lighting ceremony begins with a countdown to a spectacular fireworks display that illuminates the night sky, showering Glenwood Springs in holiday spirit. To keep the celebration energy going, A Band Called Alexis returns to the stage, inviting guests to dance the night away.

Santa and children at Grand Holiday

A Glenwood Springs Grand Holiday

On Friday, December 13, from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., Centennial Park at Nineth St. and Grand Ave. becomes the focal point of A Grand Holiday, a late afternoon filled with holiday magic and free activities for every member of the family. This charming event, staged in a downtown “pocket” park highlights the authentic small-town character of Glenwood Springs.

Chase away the chills with a cup of holiday cheer and a warm, melt-in-your-mouth snack. A steamy hot cocoa bar complete with marshmallows and freshly made churros rolled in sweet cinnamon sugar are tasty treats sure to make kids of all ages smile with delight.

Adding to the wonder of the day, Santa Claus is also scheduled to make an appearance. Instead of mailing their holiday wish lists to the North Pole, kids can hand deliver their letters to the Jolly Old Elf in person. Santa, the season’s biggest celebrity, will also invite kids to gather round and listen up as his helpers read aloud a variety of holiday stories selected by the librarians at Glenwood Springs Library.
