Haul out the clubs and head for the links in Glenwood Springs. Golf courses have been preening and prepping this spring, readying greens and clubhouses to welcome golfers back for another season of robust play.

For anyone who loves the Colorado outdoors, golf ranks as a top activity choice in the hot springs town. Sunny days, fresh air and knockout views are a three-stroke combo everyone from newbies to pros is guaranteed to enjoy.

While hitting a hole-in-one is always a long shot, playing a great game of golf in Glenwood Springs is not. The town is home to two golf courses, one municipal and the other private. Glenwood Springs visitors also have access to six other nearby golf courses. Tee time reservations are required at all courses, and playing fees vary.

Glenwood Springs Golf Club

Lady golfers at Glenwood Springs Golf ClubThis beautiful, public nine-hole course is a local favorite not only because it’s easy to squeeze in a quick round before soaking in the hot springs or after lunch at a local restaurant but also due to the breathtaking views from the clubhouse and greens. Diehards won’t be disappointed either as there are plenty of challenges to keep things interesting. The first two holes are ideal for settling into your game. Hole #3 is where it ticks up; the short, uphill par 3 requires teeing off from an elevated box with enough power to carry the ball over the road below and land it on an elevated green. Hole #5 is considered the most difficult due to the serpentine layout. Another skills test comes along at Hole #7, where the tee shot brings a lake hazard into play.

Ironbridge Golf Club

men golfing at iron bridge Located in an alpine golf community with prominent views of Mount Sopris, the course was designed by golf great Arthur Hills. Originally, it was conceived as a long, tough track to test elite players. Over time, the golf-champion-turned-architect and one-time owner Tom Lehman refined the course, making it accessible to more players. Almost everyone agrees Ironbridge feels like three different courses connected over 18-holes. The front nine features flatter terrain and water hazards with the final five holes situated along the Roaring Fork River. The highlight comes in the middle on #10 through #13. Signature Hole #12 is a 435-yard, par 4 that requires distance control and precision to avoid six bunkers in the landing area.

More Places to Putt

For those with the drive to hit greens farther afield, there are half a dozen other golf courses within the vicinity, including Aspen Glen Golf Club, Battlement Mesa Golf Course, Gypsum Creek Golf Course, Lakota Canyon Ranch & Golf Club, Rifle Creek Golf Course and River Valley Ranch Golf Club.

For a summer that’s well played from start to finish, don’t wait another minute to plan your golf and hot springs vacation to Glenwood Springs today!
