No Name Colorado Hiking

PLEASE NOTE!

“Some areas along this trail were burned, as was a large portion of Glenwood Canyon. Public safety continues to be the priority, and there is a long-term risk of post-fire flooding and debris flow. The White River National Forest is working with a number of stakeholders including the Colorado Department of Transportation on short and long-term mitigation measures. The forest will reopen this trail only after risks to life and safety can be reasonably addressed.
– White River National Forest Service”

In addition to Hanging Lake and Grizzly Creek, this is yet another spectacular trail located in Glenwood Canyon. The trail follows No Name Creek and is horse- and hound- friendly. The No Name Trail is also known as the Jess Weaver Trail and is considered by some as one of the best hikes in Glenwood Canyon.

It follows No Name Creek, which flows year round and is supplemented by a diversion that brings water from the larger Grizzly Creek drainage into the No Name basin to supply the City of Glenwood Springs with water. The trail is well-defined and maintained but can be strenuous at times. Highlights include beautiful stream-side hiking, with frequent crossings from one bank to the other, and waterfall views.

Of the three main side canyons in Glenwood Canyon, No Name is the least traveled. As a result, it’s a good place to get away from the summer hiking crowds. That isn’t to say, however, that trail users will have complete solitude. Busy summer days see high usage and finding a place to park can be a challenge. The No Name/Jess Weaver trail is also notable as one of the more popular climbing destinations in the Glenwood Springs area, particularly for traditional climbers. The first half mile of this route passes several large granite cliffs on both sides of the creek.

DIRECTIONS

Hiking No Name Trail

Access the No Name Trail from the No Name exit (Exit 119), head north, away from the rest area, and continue for a half-mile. Park at the trailhead. The route can be overgrown with vegetation especially further up the trail, so for longer hikes consider wearing pants and long sleeved shirts.
