During the winter, Babbish Gulch is a favorite destination for Nordic skiers and snowshoers; in the warmer seasons the trail becomes a destination for day hikers and mountain bikers.
Babbish Gulch at Sunlight Mountain Resort offers 29 kilometers of groomed cross-country and snowshoe trails. Beginning, intermediate and advanced trails meander through a gorgeous high valley that is flanked by two peaks, Sunlight Mountain and Williams Peak.
Every year on the Sunday closest to December 7th, Sunlight Mountain Resort hosts the Day of Infamy Snowshoe Race, an exhilarating 8-kilometer race through Babbish Gulch. The race was created in 1991 as a way to honor the servicemen who lost their lives at Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941. Over the years, it has become a popular community event for families and their canine pets. In fact, it is a fundraising event for animal shelters in Garfield and Pitkin counties. During the summer months, Babbish Gulch is a favorite destination for mountain bikers and horseback riders.
