For those who like the added challenge of an uphill climb in cold weather conditions, grab a pick axe and climb one of the area’s frozen falls or ice-caked cliff faces.

Along with outstanding rock climbing, Rifle Mountain Park and Glenwood Canyon both offer ice climbing opportunities. Due to temperatures and precipitation, conditions at both locales can vary. Prior to heading out, check in with outfitters or guides about ice climbing conditions. When climbing at Rifle Mountain Park, keep in mind there is a day use fee and limited parking so be sure to plan accordingly.
