CYCLING AND MOUNTAIN BIKING IN GLENWOOD SPRINGS

Glenwood’s extensive and varied network of biking includes both gradual inclines on river and rail corridors and off-road trails that up the level of difficulty for mountain biking enthusiasts.

Paved trails along the Colorado and Roaring Fork Rivers offer riders of all abilities access to awe inspiring scenery along smooth surfaces with minor elevation changes. There are also plenty of off-road rides that climb high above Glenwood Springs and finish with a rip-roaring descent into town.

Because of Glenwood’s mild climate and the introduction of fat biking in winter, the cycling season in Glenwood Spring spans all four seasons. Find out more about these trails, including directions, on the Trail Guide page.

FAT BIKING

Biking season does not end when the snow flies. The sport known as fat biking has been around for nearly a decade but has only recently picked up traction as a legitimate winter activity. Glenwood’s trails are an increasingly popular destination for fat biking fans. Try fat biking on Glenwood’s snow-packed trails for an exhilarating ride that is surprisingly similar to the feel and handling of a dry singletrack.

Having the right equipment is the key to fat tire fun. Fat bikes are a specialized bike hybrid with sport-specific frame specs, wide rims and obese tires that can span four inches or more. The extra-wide tires improve traction on soft surfaces like snow, allowing them to go where most mountain bikes dare not tread in winter conditions. With the right gear and a bit of practice, fat bikes tend to handle, brake and corner just like a mountain bike on a summer trail.
