ART ON 8TH
The fine craft and weaving studio supports a community of individuals with developmental disabilities. Their beautifully handwoven goods are a true Glenwood Springs keepsake. Art on 8th is the home of the Mountain Valley Weavers. In 1988, Mountain Valley received an endowment and three weaving looms from a local Aspen family to start a weaving program.
Individuals receiving services from Mountain Valley who expressed an interest in the craft were taught to weave. For several years, their handwoven products were sold at local fairs and holiday bazaars.
In 1996, the program was expanded to include a production weaving studio and retail shop that provided an opportunity for the weavers to work in a community setting. Later that year, Mountain Valley Textiles and Gifts, now called Art on 8th, opened in downtown Glenwood Springs. The pride they feel for their work is evident and they have received many accolades for their handwoven products. Visitors are encouraged to stop by and watch the weavers at work.
In addition to woven textiles, the gallery also showcases the work of other local artists.
