The Free 30th Annual Lighting Ceremony takes place at the Hotel Colorado on Friday, Nov. 29
Glenwood Springs, CO (November 8, 2019) – For 30 years Glenwood Springs residents and visitors have gathered at one of the town’s most recognizable landmarks – the Hotel Colorado –for the official start of the holiday season. The free event, always scheduled the Friday after Thanksgiving, draws thousands of people to watch as the magic happens. Festivities include a fun-filled day and night of holiday cheer complete with music, visits from Santa and culminates with a bigger than ever fireworks display and the illumination of thousands of lights.
On Friday, Nov. 29, the Hotel Colorado lights up the night at the 30th Annual Holiday Lighting Ceremony. This year’s event kicks off at 3:15 p.m., inside the Hotel Colorado with meet and greet with Santa in the Devereux Ballroom with festive music in the lobby. In the afternoon from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., visitors can also stop by the Christmas in the Rockies Craft Fair. The Craft Fair is also open on Saturday, Nov. 30, from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Refreshments will be served by Boy Scout Troop #225 including hot cocoa, cider and cookies.
At 6:00 p.m., activities transition outside to the Main Stage where dignitaries will welcome guests and performers including the Glenwood Springs High School ROTC, the Liberty Classical School, the Denver Dolls and local favorite musician Rodrigo Arreguin. There will also be performances by Grand Junction bag pipe players the Glenfinnan Highlanders, and the Legacy Dance Company who will perform dance routines. Around 7:00 p.m., Santa leads the highly anticipated countdown for the lighting ceremony and biggest fireworks display to date. As the crowd gazes upward, colorful fireworks light up the night sky and simultaneously, with the flip of a switch, the holiday lighting is spectacularly illuminated. On Thanksgiving Day, the Hotel Colorado will host hundreds of people for its annual Thanksgiving Buffet, on November 28. The Hotel Colorado’s award-winning chef Aaron Haga, will lay out a Thanksgiving spread with turkey, prime rib, seafood and all the trimmings. Seatings are available from 11:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and cost is $49 for adults and $21 for children 10 and under. New this year, The Hotel Colorado will also offer Winter Wonderland series. These free events will take place the first 3 Thursdays in December – 5th, 12th and 19th. They start with Caroling in the Lobby by local school choirs who will perform two sets at 6:00 p.m. and 6:20 p.m. Participating schools include; Two Rivers Community School on December 5, Glenwood Springs Middle and High School on December 12 and Rifle High School on December 19. Caroling is followed up with Classic Christmas movies in the Roosevelt Room starting at 6:45 p.m. December 5 features Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer, December 12 is The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, and December 19 is The Polar Express.
The hotel will also be hosting a Breakfast with Santa on Sunday, December 15, from 10:00 a.m. to Noon. The breakfast buffet will be family-style seating; cost is $15.95 for adults and $5.95 for kids 12 and under. The meet and greet with Santa includes a free photo to take home.
The hotel is also partnering with the Salvation Army for the Salvation Army Toy Drive starting the week of Thanksgiving through December 16 as well as participating in the Salvation Army’s Adopt-A-Family Program which assists families who are in crisis who otherwise wouldn’t have the resources to celebrate the holidays.
The Hotel Colorado Restaurant and Bar will be open during the all these wonderful holiday events. The hotel is currently taking reservations for holiday parties and offers a variety of group options from the newly renovated intimate rooms to the grand ballrooms.
