A quick Mini Mayor campaign update on what has been the most active election cycle yet in Sunlight’s annual Mini-Mayor Election.
Currently 8-year-old Piper Arnette of Silt, CO, is the campaign frontrunner with more than 33,000 votes. Gil Smith, 8, of Glenwood Springs, is the closest challenger with more than 20,000 votes. In all 12 Mini-Mayor hopefuls have been actively canvassing their neighborhoods and social media since launching their campaigns Sept. 25. Their efforts have included regular messaging to their constituencies via social media posts and videos, as well as distributing campaign posters throughout their communities and attending events such as high school football games and local parades.
The attached heat map illustrates votes being cast literally from around the globe. Find photos and videos of all of the candidates on Sunlight Facebook Event Page!
Polls close and voting concludes at 5pm MST tomorrow, Nov. 5th. New this year, one lucky voter will be selected to win a Ski, Swim, Stay vacation package – which to us also sounds like a great idea for increasing voter turnout in the national presidential election.
All skier and riders aged 12 and under can run for the office of Mini-Mayor. Mini-Mayor enjoys many exclusive benefits including a complimentary season pass, a new pair of skis or snowboard (think Air Force One) and a seat at Sunlight’s Executive Table. Sunlight Mini-Mayor can weigh-in on important issues such as on-mountain events like passing out donuts, ski area operations such as painting the chairlifts pink, and influencing menu items such as hamburgers, spaghetti, and hot chocolate. Past Mini-Mayors have raised hundreds of dollars for local non-profits such as Make-a-Wish Colorado and SOS Outreach of Avon, Colo.
