It’s time for fall fun in Glenwood Springs, with seasonally themed happenings including musical entertainment, community fun races and annual events like Octoberfest at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park, the Glenwood Springs Historical Society’s Ghost Walk and the holiday lighting ceremony at the Hotel Colorado.
October is a gorgeous month to enjoy the great outdoors with plenty of things-to-do in Glenwood Springs. Spend these still-warm days going for fall color drives, playing a round of golf on nearby courses and cycling on an abundance of paved and off-road trails.
5, 12, 19, 26 Octoberfest at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park. October is a peak month for fall in Colorado and nowhere is it more entertaining than at a mountain-top adventure park. Celebrate all month long with autumn-themed activities and for two weekends in October, the 12th and 19th, festivities go full-on Bavarian with German music, contests, food and more!

5 Glenwood Canyon Shuffle. This fundraising event for Literacy Outreach meanders along the bike path through Glenwood Canyon. Enjoy just a part of it by running or walking the 5k one-way course from Grizzly Creek to No Name or get the whole canyon experience and run the half marathon route from the start of the canyon to No Name. All ages and levels of participation are welcome! Transportation is provided to the race starting line.
18,19, 25, 26 Glenwood Springs Historical Society Ghost Walk. After a one-year hiatus, the Historic Ghost Walk through Linwood Cemetery has been resurrected. For two weekends in October, guests are guided by lamplight to the old graveyard where ghostly apparitions include Doc Holliday and others who appear to tell their tales. Considered one of the best ghost walks in the state, the event always sells out. Tickets go on sale October 1.
20 Xterra Trail Run. Calling all dirt trail runners, this is your day! Part of the Xterra Colorado Trail Run Series, participants can choose either the half-marathon or 5K distance. This race takes runners on trails that weave in and around Red Mountain and Wulfsohn Ranch. It is open to everyone, from experienced racers to the entire family.
As the temperatures drop, late fall is the perfect time to relax with a spa day or get cozy soaking or steaming at Glenwood’s geothermal hot springs attractions.
11 Veteran’s Day. To honor and thank those who have served our country past and present, many Glenwood Springs businesses offer military discounts. Be sure to inquire at Glenwood Springs lodging establishments and attractions.
15 Winter on the Mountain Kick-off. The mountain-top Adventure Park shines with a dazzling display of more than a half million lights, a warming hut decorated as the North Pole, fire pits for roasting s’mores, a lighted Alpine Coaster and Haunted Mine Drop. A giant Christmas tree with a light show choreographed to music takes center stage in the plaza. Holiday visits from Santa Claus and carolers add to the festive spirit.
15, 22, 29 Friday Afternoon Club (FAC) at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park. Kick-start the weekend with entertaining live music, delicious food and thirst-quenching drink specials from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Guests can ride the Glenwood Gondola for free on Fridays starting at 4 p.m. with a coupon that appears in the Glenwood Springs Post Independent. One coupon is valid for a gondola ride for up to four people.
28 Thanksgiving at the Hotel Colorado. Skip the stress and the mess; award-winning Hotel Colorado Chef Aaron Haga will be serving perfectly prepared turkey with all the seasonal trimmings you’ve come to expect, with a few surprises thrown in. Reservations required: call 970-945-6511.
29 Annual Hotel Colorado Lighting Ceremony. See for yourself why Travel and Leisure named it one of America’s Best Hotels for Christmas. Over one million lights bring the Hotel Colorado to life during this special time. The scent of gingerbread fills the air, beautifully decorated Christmas trees dot the lobby and hallways and everywhere you turn, you’ll be greeted with festive, seasonal touches.

Don’t just walk in our winter wonderland, play in it! The local ski area has family-friendly terrain for affordable skiing vacations; for high octane thrills go snowmobiling, or for something lower-key there are Nordic and snowshoeing trails aplenty.

13 Glenwood Springs Grand Holiday Celebration. Hosted by Glenwood’s Downtown Market and sponsored by Garfield County, don’t miss the opportunity to meet Santa and his reindeer. From 4:30 to 7 p.m. on the Courthouse Lawn, gather round for holiday music, marshmallow roasting, hot chocolate and cookies.
